About the Place:
Brahmagiri, is a mountain range in the Western Ghats of south India. It is situated on the border between Kodagu district in Karnataka state in the north and Wayanad district of Kerala state on the south . T rek distance is 9km from Iruppu falls (Karnataka side) and 11km from Thirunelli forest guest house (Kerala side). One can choose any route and permission is compulsory on either trek trails and camping is not allowed inside the forest. Brahmagiri Hill, at 1608 m height, is a scenic tourist attraction. The top of Brahmagiri Hill is well forested and has a lot of wildlife and one can get sight of elephants now and then.
Thirunelli Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu, lies on the Kerala side of Brahmagiri. This temple is known as Dakshina Kasi or the Kasi of the South. The temple was constructed in an ancient style and includes 30 granite pillars. According to legend, the temple was constructed by Lord Brahma himself.
Pakshipathalam at an altitude of 1740 m is another attraction on the Kerala side. Pakshipathalam has a cave that is said to have been used by rishis in ancient times. On the Karnataka side it is also known by the name of Munikal cave.
Iruppu (or Irpu or Lakshmana Tirtha) Falls of the Lakshmana Tirtha River lies on the Karnataka side of Brahmagiri. According to legend, when Rama and Lakshmana were searching for Sita, they became thirsty. Lakshmana shot an arrow into the Brahmagiri from which the river sprang. Rama is said to have dedicated a Shiva Kshethra known as Rajeshwara Temple on the banks of river Lakshmana Tirtha. The Lakshmana Tirtha river eventually flows into the Kaveri River. One Jain Temple is also present here built by Kadamba dynasty.

Itinerary 1: Iruppu falls (9km/Easy/Stay option:Forest guest house/Dormitory/Camping outside reserve forest)
Day 01: Depart previous day @10:30PM from pick up point, Reach Trek start place, Get fresh, Breakfast, take a plunge at Iruppu falls and start hiking after acquiring permission from forest check-post. One can hike till forest guest house and spend plenty of time and go to peak the next day or reach peak and return back to guest house by evening. Have dinner along with BBQ of your choice.
Day 02: Wake up early, Have local cuisine for breakfast and leave to Nagarahole national park, Enjoy Safari and leave to Bangalore by 5PM
Itinerary 2: Thirunelli guest house (11km/Moderate/Stay option:Camping/Dormitory/Home Stay/Forest guest house)
Day 01: Depart previous day @10:30PM from pick up point, Reach Trek start place, Get fresh, Breakfast and start hiking after acquiring permission from forest chechpost at Thirunelli. Reach the peak by 1PM, visit pakshipathalam, start descending by 2PM and reach stay place by evening. Indulge in fun-filled activities around bonfire if weather permits. Have dinner and one can try their hand at BBQ.
Day 02: Wake up early, Have local cuisine for breakfast and leave to visit Edakkal caves/Iruppu falls and leave to Bangalore by late afternoon.
- 1 night stay at dormitory/Home Stay/Camping/Forest guest house
- Spacious dome tents, sleeping bags.
- All meals during the trek.
- Transportation to and fro as per itinerary (non AC).
- Local trek guide.

Things to Carry:
- Trekking shoes
- Backpack (40-60 liters), Water proof
- Socks (2 pairs): One sports socks, A pair of woolen socks for the night if trek is in winter.
- Salt/Snuff Powder to avoid leeches during rainy and post rainy season.
- Headlamp/Torch: Mandatory
- Toiletries (Sunscreen, moisturizer, light towel, lip balm, toilet paper, toothbrush, toothpaste).
- Two water bottles: 1 liter each.
- Personal Medications if any
- Plastic covers/Water proof covers to keep wet cloths separately and extra for when backpack is not 100% water proof.
